The southern part of the quarter Leipzig Schleussig is surrounded by parks, the "Auwald" forest (a flooding area of the river "Weisse Elster" ("white magpie"), a garden colony - all green and quiet. At the same time, the trendy quarters Schleussig, Plagwitz and Südvorstadt with all kinds of shops, bars, cafes etc is just a 10min bike-ride away (or by tram/bus), the city centre just a little bit further.

Parking in front of the house, the next bus/tram stop 5min walking, similarly a supermarket, various shops. The next beach at the Cospuden Lake is 15min by bike or car, boat or bike rentals just around the corner.

There is a small information brochure published by a local community initiative .

Leipzig city is not significantly further away - take the bike or tram and you are there in 15min. Getting to the main station is a matter of not even 20min including a short walk from our house to the tram stop. Car parking in front of the house is normally not a problem.

In walking distance there is a supermarket, bakeries and various other shops, restaurants, etc -. see Food and drink.

There are some more lakes around (officially "Neuseenland"), especially interesting maybe the Kulkwitzer See which is very popular with scuba divers due to it's exceptionally clear water (and therefore plenty of fish and plants).

Kayaks can be rented for visiting Leipzig from a unusual perspective - have a look at old industry quarters with a lot of architectural monuments (today either ruins or shiny loft complexes) or gardens and backyards.

And finally of course the Auwald - please have a look through the Wikipedia-article, also the city of Leipzig has some information and there is even a Verein zur Förderung der Umweltbildung und Umweltforschung. In practice it's at least very green and fine for walking/hiking, biking, picnicking etc ...
